Immunizations at Every Age: What You Need to Know

New parents quickly find out that vaccinations are a common occurrence in children if you choose to vaccinate. Starting in infancy, children will be given immunization shots to protect them from harmful diseases. Such diseases can be serious leading to the need for hospitalization or result in death. Immunizations are given at varying stages and are required during different school years. Below is a short guide on what you need to know based on your child’s age.

Birth

Before your baby is released from the hospital, they may be given the first of three doses of a vaccine that is used to protect them from Hepatitis B.

2 Months

Your baby will receive even more shots from at 2 months old.  These shots include the second dose of Hepatitis B, tetanus and whooping cough, polio and more. These immunizations are provided to help your baby develop an immunity to such diseases

4 Months

Additional shots are given at 4 months of age including Pneumococcal, Rotavirus, Diphtheria, whooping cough and possible others.

6 Months to 11 Months

You will continue to take your baby to the doctor at 6 months and then 7 to 11 months to continue with immunization shots. Your doctor will alert you to when your baby needs to make an appointment for their next immunizations.

Additional Immunizations

Children will then return to their physician for shots from 12 to 23 months, 2 to 3 years, 11 to 12 and 13 to 18. Over the years, the types of shots will vary for your child. In most cases, the only shot that will be recommended for your child will be a flu shot. Immunizations tend to slow down after your child begins school.
Keeping track of the immunization schedule will help you to ensure that your child stays healthy and will build a strong immunity towards various diseases. Always ask questions or express your concerns with your physician when visiting the doctor’s office for immunization shots to fully understand the vaccinations needed.  MD Now offers all needed vaccinations for all ages.  Drop by one of our convenient locations to get up to date on vaccinations for you and your family.
